3D Fans

After nicky animated both the 2D and 3D fans we have decided to go with the 3D ones as they look much better animated. Will now begin to draw the finals.

Islands on Background

I really like the different island shapes but I did also like having just one island shape. Will ask the group which they prefer before I draw more islands.

Islands different shapes

Look quite dark but appear much lighter on blue background.

Island Shapes

I had the idea of maybe making different shaped islands and the team thought itd be a good idea so here are some outlines that could possibly be islands.

Different outline colours

Trying different line colours to get it looking as good as possible.

With Fan

Outline in illstrator

Outline I drew

Improved Island

Did the outline in illustrator then brought into photoshop and put over the paint. Then rubbed out around the outline, made top darker and this is how it looks. Top one is the improved one.

New Mock Up

Massive improvement on the origianl we used.

Brown

From this I reckon I will be able to edit it and get the island and cliff from it. I do like the streakiness of the paint. But will see what the others reckon.

Angles of Fans - Two styles

Nicky is going to do an animation of each style of fan and from there we will see which ones I am to draw up properly. The one that looks better animated is the one we shall go with.

After Crit Sep 26th

We made some major decisions today after our critique. We took all our feedback into consideration and have decided to completely get rid of the sunlight and the mirrors. This way the user only have to concentrate on the fans. We can still make very challenging levels by having many islands and limiting the amount of fans the user can use.

Im am now going to work really hard on trying to perfect the watercolouring and if this isnt succuessful then we will change to making vector versions.

Joss is at a good place with the coding side of things which is good but we all still have a lot to do.

Main Priorities

At the moment I feel I am at a good place with what I know I need to do. My main priority at the moment is to finish the design of the aspects that need to be animated by nicky, such as the fans, wind and seed. My aim is to have these done by next week.

My last priority at the moment is the background as I know this can easily be changed near the end of the assignment.

The mirrors are near the top of my list as getting the colour right for those will take a lot of playing around.

The sunlight beam will also take a lot to get the colouring right so really need to start on that.

Vectored Fans

For some reason the colour wouldnt live paint so I vectored the outside lines then added the colour behind the vectors in photoshop. I really like the look of this. Am going to add line detail next in order to see what it looks like.

Dead Islands

Repainted islands. I really like the colour detailing. Turned out very well. But again I am unsure about the sketchy line detailing. I feel it could begin to look messy.

Fans with Watercolour

Fans look really good with watercolour added. I need to re draw the angles but other than that I think they are looking really good. Im now undecided whether we really need to extra line sketchy detail so will ask the team what they think.

Solar Panel

Added solar panels to my already done sketches. I feel they get the message across of actually being solar panels but will have the team have a look at them and see if they agree.

PowerPoint

PowerPoint me and Nicky put together in our group meeting today for the Crit. Feel this is the best way to show where we are at at the moment.

We’ve included all the stuff we think people need to see in order to critique as much as they can.

Mirror, Prisms and Solar Panels Decided

At our meeting today I draw up some sketches of different mirror, prism and solar panel designs. Nicky and I then decided on which ones we thought were the best and from here I will design them in proper detail.

We tried Stencyl and Succeeded. For ONCE!!

Because we have enough design and logic work done for the crit, Nicky and myself started fixing some stuff in stencyl.
Going from the file Joss started yesterday, we’ve now made it so that when you drag the fan off the button, you can release the mouse and place it. Previously, you couldn’t actually place them.
SUCCESS!
Currently, only one fan can be placed, we’re working on that.

Answers for Crit

As a team we quickly answered the questions that Kah wants us to have answered for the crit. Here are our answers:

Roles
- Joss = Coding
- Nic = Vectorising + Animatioin
- Renee = Design
We’ll all input in each other’s areas but these are the general roles.

Minimum Viable Deliverable
4 levels
- 1 tutorial level (easy)
- 3 levels (progressively harder)

What is the game?
- Physics Puzzler

Why do I want to play this?
- Challenging
- Visually pleasing
- Real world message
- FUN!

How do I play this?
- Mouse controlled (click + drag)
- Play button (to start windmills)
- Select component and drag to correct place in scene
Fail = Not solving the puzzle correctly (such as using the wrong fan)

Do I want to play it again?
Yes - After watching yourself fail a level, you would want to complete the level you failed and continue to the next.

Do I want to show it to others?
Yes! - Because we will be proud of what we have completed.

What does the game look like?
- Natural colours
- Earthy tones
- Soft
- Easy to look at
- Dead

Is the mechanic and the message closely tied? Does the audience get the message?
Yes - the aim of the game (mechanic) is to get the seed to the healthy land so it can grow as the rest of the land is dark and gloomy and dead. This mechanic relates to the real world as things don’t grow in uncared for land. The way we have used the sunlight to power the windmills also works with the message.

Is this a complete game that can grow?
Yes - more levels could easily be added, along with more components (such as different fan angles, different shaped prisms and moveable mirrors).

For the crit we are thinking of making a small powerpoint showing exactly where we are at with our game. Our main focus is to get the working prototype going.

Googles Solar Panel Wind Turbine

To get an idea of how I could draw the solar panel, I googled it and these are two examples I found.

I do like the second idea, however attaching the panel to the top of the fan would make it much harder for the sunlight to get it.

The first image is quite a good idea as well. I think I will somehow attach the panel to the bottom of the fan. Just unsure of exactly how it will look at this stage.
